Coffee Alternatives! Pre and Post Detox Phases

What to replace with your morning cup of Joe!

I forgot to mention in the post on phase one an alternative that I use in place of coffee when detoxing. I know its hard for a lot of people to give it up for a number of days, but it will be worth it in the end. Like I stated above, the reason for eliminating coffee is because it over taxes your digestive system. It is very acidic. Coffee also has a large amount of caffeine which makes the liver work harder. I dont recommend decaf either because it is still acidic and I dont like the methods that most coffee companies use to extract the caffeine. Some methods are better than others, but I would just stay away from coffee all together for now.

So for now I recommend Green Tea Energy from Yogi Tea. This is green tea with ginseng. Yes, green tea contains caffeine, but less than half of what coffee has. 28mg of caffeine for green tea and 90mg of caffeine for a cup of coffee. Green tea is loaded with antioxidants, so I think this over compensates for the small amount of caffeine. Just dont have more than one cup of day on this phase. Another alternative I recommend is Yerba Mate. This tea has the same amount of caffeine as Green Tea and contains an abundance of antioxidants. Last but not least, I recommend Teeccino. This stuff is pretty close to tasting like real coffee with out any caffeine. -Just dont add sugar. I recommend using Stevia in moderation on this phase(a pack or two a day). No cream or milk on this phase either! Well that is pretty much what I use on phase 1 and 3 of the detox. Definitely dont consume these products during phase 2: your detox days! Caffeine and any stimulants should not be consumed at this time. The body really needs to rest on this phase.
