People, who spend a lot of time working on the computer, are suffering from two main factors, which are coming from the computer: What does an informational overload mean?
Lets start with our body. The heart uses energy for blood circulation, lungs - for breathing and so on, but our brain uses energy for information management. According to some scientific opinions, the human mind uses about 1,200 Kcal daily. It''s approximately half of the total energy of the body. In other words, the mind requires more energy than any other organ. The more information we receive, the more energy our mind spends. Thus, significant mental pressure is equal to high energy spending pressure.
Thanks to Care from Mother Nature, we have more or less energy reserve at the beginning of our life. We can withstand and tolerate any harmful influence when we have enough of the energy backup. Bad times come when we have depleted this resource. In this case the brain (because it is the main part of our body) takes the energy away from the weak systems in our body in order to restore the necessary power.
Therefore, people like programmers and computer specialists, who are under high mental pressure, very often may have experienced the symptoms of energy deficiency, such as: irritability and emotional sensitivity. They often convert minor problems into big problems (sometimes to aggression). Their unstable moodiness and negativity usually results in a bad relationship with relatives and friends, lessen good influence on other people. It may also cause loss of a job. Energy deficiency causes the usual work to be harder, it takes longer to complete a job, it decreases the quality of the final product (file size, bugs, links, etc.). Energy deficiency affects inspiration and mainly could effect ones health - weak places of the body become weaker.
Next problem caused by working with computers is exposure to electromagnetic fields. Even grounded computer equipment produces electromagnetic fields around it. Somebody could say that those fields are low in intensity and cannot hurt, but in reality the biological processes of the body are more sensitive precisely to weak electromagnetic fields, rather than to the strong ones.
Some sensitive people, who do not react to the strong electromagnetic fields, may even have dizziness from the same electromagnetic fields of the low intensity. What do weak fields do to us? They decrease the blood circulation and after a long time of working on the computer, many of us could feel a little bit of coldness in the arms or in the whole body.
Unfortunately, the whole world is using very old standards for safety, which still are not upgraded to suit our new requirements and demands. Because no one takes the necessary steps to excessively protect our health, we should do it ourselves.
Solutions: turn on the radio to any station on SW or LW band, than slowly bring the radio to the parts of your computer system (monitor, computer, etc.). Notice at what distance the noise is appearing on the radio - for more safety your body should not be closer to the computer than this noise distance. It would be better to add a special grounded screen saver for your monitor. You, probably, will also need to ground your body at some period of time (metal water tubes, faucet or special surge protector with grounded metal plate etc.).
How can you get rid of an information overload? If you will keep the same ineffective style of handlling complicated information to be processed by your brain - you can get an experience of all the symptoms of energy deficiency (see above). How to resolve this problem? First rule: if you should work with some information (project) but cannot handle it try different approaches*:
There is a good way to get away from information overload: to filter necessary information from unnecessary information. But be careful: for our brain, the meaning of necessary and unnecessary information is different than for your boss. Everything that you can understand and use consciously is OK and does not cause overload of information. But, if you have some problems managing incoming information - your brain will start to accept this kind of information as unnecessary and will spend extra energy to handle it. It does not matter how important is this information - if your brain cannot afford it - it considers this information as unnecessary and tries to avoid it in order to save energy.
- Switch to an easy project and than come back to the difficult one.
- But if you can''t, just switch for a while to different activities for example: come to a mirror and brush your hair, wash your face with cool water, etc. Switch your attention to a window, or an interesting picture. In other words, do all that you need to do, to put a difficult issue into your mind and than switch your attention to nothing (for a few minutes). It helps the brain to find a necessary solution for your project.
- To take a nap for 5 min in a quiet place (no TV, radio).
- Brain storm.
- If you are not a smoker - avoid taking a break in a company of smoking people. According to some scientific studies mind productivity of nonsmoking people is decreased in cigarette smoke clouds.
- Avoid using strong coffee, because it will deplete the energy in your nervous system, which will not be replenished for a long time.
* The recommendations are simplified for people who are not experienced in mind management. These simple solutions are pretty effective.
